Indians Injury Update: Michael Bourn could return this weekend

By on 8/13/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Cleveland Indians entered Tuesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a record of 59-59, third in the American League Central. The Indians remain within striking distance of a wild card spot behind an offense that is sixth in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One player who could provide an extra spark down the stretch is center fielder Michael Bourn, who has been out for the past five weeks with a hamstring injury. The good news is that Bourn could return this weekend.

As reported by R.J. White of, Bourn could be cleared to return at some point during the Indians' weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles. Indians manager Terry Francona is relatively optimistic about Bourn's chances to return this weekend.
"Bourny is doing really well. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays for us this weekend. We've just got to sit with Bourny and figure out how to get him to this weekend, just because we have a day off on Thursday, and having him sitting for a couple days might not make sense. So we'll sit with him and kind of figure out the best way to get him back here where he feels good about himself, and also has as many at-bats as he can get without having too many, because he's not ready to quite play every day."
Bourn, in his ninth Major League season, is batting .267 with three home runs and 21 RBI. The veteran outfielder has played for the Phillies, Astros, Braves and Indians and has a career average of .270 with 31 home runs, 286 RBI and 306 stolen bases.
