Indians Injury Update: Nick Swisher has knee surgery, done for season

By on 8/21/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Cleveland Indians entered Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins with a record of 63-61, third in the National League Central. At just six and a half games back, the Indians still have a chance to make a run down the stretch for a playoff spot. They will have to do so without veteran outfielder Nick Swisher, who had knee surgery yesterday and is out for the rest of the season.

Our own Evan Petzold reported on August 10 that Swisher,  who has been dealing with knee issues all season, was replaced in the seventh inning after he had knee troubles flare up again.

An update on Swisher, according to the official Twitter account of the Cleveland Indians,
Paul Hoynes, who covers the Indians for, also tweeted the following on Swisher's status.
Swisher, in his 11th Major League season, is batting .208 with eight home runs and 42 RBI this season. His streak of nine consecutive seasons with 20 or more home runs will end this season. Swisher has played for the A's, White Sox, Yankees and Indians and is a career .251 hitter with 239 home runs and 778 RBI.
