UPDATE 11:15 ET: Both Swisher and Murphy have been placed on the 15-day DL, as tweeted by Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Original article:

The Cleveland Indians are working hard to gain ground in the American League Central division. If they want to make that push they need all their players healthy and this is an issue. The Indians lost David Murphy and Nick Swisher in Cleveland's 3-0 win over the New York Yankees due to injury, as reported by Jordan Bastian from

David Murphy
Murphy was pulled in the sixth inning due to discomfort in his right side. The Indians are going to schedule a MRI exam to determine the extent of the injury. Murphy said,
It grabbed at me a little bit more, my right side, than it has been. I don't feel like it blew out, but I feel like it got to the point where it was close enough to where I didn't want to test it any more."
Murphy has hit .262 with seven home runs and 55 RBI's in 109 games this season. He said his right side has been sore for a week now and he's been attempting to play through the discomfort.

Nick Swisher
Swisher was replaced in the seventh inning after he had knee troubles flare up again. He has been dealing with knee issues all season while struggling at the plate. He has played left field, right field, and designated hitter while batting .208 with  eight home runs and 42 RBI's.

The Indians are currently without center fielder Michael Bourn and with the loss of Murphy and Swisher, the battered outfield has gotten a lot thinner.
