Indians Injury Update: Yan Gomes, Chris Dickerson, Michael Bourn

By on 8/03/2014 01:45:00 PM

Cleveland Indians catcher Yan Gomes was not in the team's lineup for Sunday's contest against the Texas Rangers. MLB.com's Alec Shirkey tweeted that a stiff neck was responsible for Gomes' absence. Outfielder Chris Dickerson was also out for the third consecutive game with a left knee issue while another OF, Michael Bourn, is still trying to get healthy enough for a rehab assignment.

Gomes got the night off on Saturday, with Roberto Perez catching, but he has not returned to catch Trevor Bauer on Sunday as normal. Perez has caught Bauer once before this season, on July 23rd, so it will not be a wholly new experience for the 25-year-old. There is no indication that Gomes' ailment is serious.

Dickerson, meanwhile, has been battling knee soreness since Wednesday, as Jackson Alexander of MLB.com reports. He was forced out of Thursday's game early after trying to play through the pain and has not started since. Dickerson told Alexander they had tried all kinds of treatments to try to reduce the swelling, which has obviously continued to linger, although manager Terry Francona said he could have used Dickerson off the bench on Saturday.

Michael Bourn is running the bases as he tries to come back from a hamstring strain but Alexander writes that the Indians do not know when he will be able to start rehab. The plan is for Bourn to run the bases again on Monday and see how he responds. The 31-year-old has been out for a month already and it seems he may be as much as a couple of weeks away from a return.
