Jaguars Injury Update: Toby Gerhart won't play in preseason opener

By on 8/07/2014 03:45:00 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Toby Gerhart will miss the team's preseason opener Friday against Tampa Bay, John Osher of reports.

Gerhart joined the Jags this offseason after spending his previous four NFL seasons backing up Adrian Peterson in Minnesota. The 27-year-old has not practiced for the Jaguars since suffering a hip flexor in practice last week.

Gerhart will likely be available for the Jaguars' second preseason game, and coach Gus Bradley said the team will look to get him more involved during that game.

"He'll get more carries as we go," Bradley said.

Gerhart rushed for over 1300 yards on 276 carries with the Vikings. He is expected to be the main ball carrier in the Jaguars' offensive attack after Maurice Jones-Drew signed a free agent contract with the Raiders in March.
