Jets Injury Update: Chris Ivory injures ribs in preseason opener

By on 8/08/2014 04:00:00 PM

As preseason football begins throughout the NFL, most teams have two goals: putting on a good show and leaving the game healthy. Despite the victory, the news was not all good for the Jets, as starting running back Chris Ivory left the game with a rib injury in the second quarter.

Ivory had tallied 17 yards on seven carries prior to the injury. In all likelihood, he was not going to remain in the game much longer anyway, as the Jets' second-team offense took over play shortly after the injury.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan did not offer much after the game, saying "Ivory should be fine."

CBSSports reported after the game that Ivory suffered bruised ribs, a better scenario than last season when the 26-year-old cracked his rib in week 17.

It would be beneficial for Ivory to return to the Jets as soon as possible. The team has a lot of depth at the running back position. In addition to Ivory, Bilal Powell, Chris Johnson, former St. Louis Ram Daryl Richardson and former Green Bay Packer Alex Green all received carries at one point in last night's game.
