Mariners Injury Update: Chris Denorfia scratched with stiff neck

By on 8/27/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Texas Rangers on Tuesday by the score of 5-0. The win improved the Mariners to 72-59, third in the American League West. Endy Chavez had two RBI for the Mariners, while Robinson Cano added his 12th home run of the season. Chavez made the most of his start in place of Chris Denorfia, who was out with a stiff neck.

Bob Dutton, who covers the Mariners for The Tacoma News Tribune, tweeted the following, confirming Denorfia's status.
The injury to Denorfia does not appear to be serious and he should be considered day-to-day.  Expect Chavez to start again this afternoon if Denorfia is unable to play.

Denorfia, in his ninth Major League season, is batting .242 with a home run and 19 RBI. The veteran has played for the Reds, A's, Padres and Mariners and is a career .274 hitter with 36 home runs and 176 RBI.
