Mariners Injury Update: Corey Hart starts rehab

By on 8/24/2014 10:00:00 AM

After missing all of 2013 due to knee surgery, Corey Hart has begun rehab with the Tacoma Rainiers and looks to put his injury plagued 2014 behind him.

While he went hitless in three at-bats as a designated hitter, the most positive sign for the Seattle Mariners is that Hart was back on the field.  With the Mariners adding Kendrys Morales, the next step for Hart will be seeing time in the field and testing out his knee.

Hamstring and knee trouble has sidelined Hart enough that he has only been able to play in 58 games this season.  Without consistency of playing healthy, Hart has struggled to get going again this season.

Although he has seven home runs in these games, he has just a .203 batting average and a .278 OBP.

As a player who generally hit 20-30 home runs per season with a .275 batting average, these are not the numbers Seattle was looking for when they signed Hart.  However, when he returns, he could be a bat that makes a difference in the stretch run.  His power and playoff experience could be an X-factor as the Mariners look to get to and compete in the playoffs.
