The Seattle Mariners (56-52) dodged a bullet last night when
Danny Farquhar was hit with a comebacker during a relief appearance in the
Mariners 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians (53-55). Also, it appears that starting pitcher James
Paxton is finally healthy after a long stint on the disabled list.
Mariners right handed reliever Danny Farquhar, 27, said that
he was doing well despite being taken out of Thursday’s game. He was pitching in the seventh inning when he
was hit on this right arm by a comebacker.
Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said the team did not want to take the
chance and removed him as a precaution, according
to Greg Johns of MLB.com. Farquhar is
in his second year with Seattle and has a 2.68 ERA in 47 innings pitched this
season; he has given up two home runs and struck out 52.
Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton, 25, will get the start Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles (60-47) Greg Johns reported this morning. Paxton has been on the disabled list since April 8th after straining his left lat muscle. He had a long rehab, including being shut down in May with shoulder inflammation. Paxton has only pitched in two games this season in which he has a 2.25 ERA and two home runs.
