Mariners Injury Update: Michael Saunders recalled from rehab stint

By on 8/24/2014 11:45:00 AM

The Seattle Mariners improved to 70-58 on the season following a 7-3 win over the Boston Reed Sox on Saturday. At six games back in the division and at the top in the wild card race, the Mariners have a good chance at the post season. But they need a healthy roster down the stretch to make a run. Unfortunately, they won't have outfielder Michael Saunders for the next few days, as his rehab has been halted because of a virus.

I reported yesterday that Saunders, who has been battling a strained left oblique, had his rehab assignment halted due to an illness.

Greg Johns, who covers the Mariners for, tweeted the following update on Saunders.
Saunders had a .327 batting average at Tacoma with a home run and 19 RBI in 15 games this season.

Saunders, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .276 with six home runs and 28 RBI this season. He had his best season in 2012, when he batted .247 with 19 home runs and 57 RBI. Saunders is a career .230 hitter with 49 home runs and 176 RBI.
