Marlins Injury Update: Bryan Morris out with groin strain

By on 8/30/2014 07:00:00 PM

The Miami Marlins enter the second game of a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves having lost 5-2 on Friday to drop their record to 65-68 on the season. At 11 games out with 29 games left to play, the Marlins are looking to work their way back to .500 by season's end. In order to do so, they will need to improve on a pitching staff that is 20th in the league in ERA. The bullpen has taken a recent blow with the absence of Bryan Morris with a groin strain.

I reported on August 28 that Morris left the visitors' clubhouse at Angel Stadium with an apparent hip injury just two hours before the start of Tuesday's game.

Joe Frisaro, who covers the Marlins for, tweeted the following on Morris.
It appears that Morris should be able to return when the Marlins return home on September 1.

Morris has been excellent this season since being acquired from the Pirates, allowing just two earned runs in 37 2/3 innings.

Morris, in his third Major League season, is 7-0 with a 1.76 ERA in 56 games this season. He's allowed only 55 hits and 22 walks in 61 1/3 innings this season. In 116 career games with the Pirates and the Marlins, Morris is 12-7 with a 2.60 ERA.
