Marlins Injury Update: Jarred Cosart and Henderson Alvarez should both start this week

By on 8/11/2014 09:45:00 AM

On Sunday, Brad Penny became the 13th starter used in the Miami Marlins rotation. That broke a single-season team mark for the number of starters used. They may be getting some help very soon, Henderson Alvarez is eligible to come off the disabled list on Thursday and is throwing a bullpen session on Monday. Jarred Cosart, who skipped his last start because of an oblique injury, said he felt fine to start on Tuesday after completing a bullpen session on Saturday. Clark Spencer from the Miami Herald states that both pitchers should both be available to pitch this week.

The Marlins seemed as if they would contend for a postseason spot, however, after losing one of the best National League pitchers in Jose Fernandez, they slumped. They Marlins are 57-60, which is good for third place in the Eastern Division. It does not look like they will make the playoffs unless a miracle occurs. The Marlins are starting to put the pieces together and are poised to make the postseason next year.

The 13 players who have been in the starting rotation are: Brad Penny, Jose Fernandez, Anthony DeSclafani, Randy Wolf, Andrew Heaney, Nathan Eovaldi, Henderson Alvarez, Tom Koehler, Kevin Slowey, Brad Hand, Jacob Turner, Jarred Cosart, and Brian Flynn.
