Marlins Injury Update: Rafael Furcal officially out for season

By on 8/16/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Miami Marlins lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Marlins to two games below .500 at 60-62, third in the National League East. Injuries have not helped the Marlins' cause this season and now there is worse news on the injury front, as Rafael Furcal is officially out for the season due to a hamstring injury

As reported by Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel, Furcal was signed this off season to a one-year, $3.5 million dollar contact but spent most of the season on the disabled list. Now his season is over after it was confirmed that he'll undergo surgery to remove scar tissue from his hamstring. The injury occurred during spring training and later developed a groin problem. He did not make his first appearance until June 13 and was place back on the disabled list on June 22.

Furcal, in his first season with the Marlins, has been sidelined the majority of the season due to injury. In nine games, he's 9-for-35 with a triple, two RBI, two walks and four runs scored. The 14-year veteran has played for the Braves, Dodgers, Cardinals and Marlins and has a career batting average of .281 with 113 home runs and 587 RBI.
