Mets Injury Update: Daisuke Matsuzaka will need at least two rehab starts

By on 8/11/2014 12:30:00 PM

The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday by the score of 7-6. The Mets blew a late 6-1 lead as Chase Utley had a key two-run triple in the seventh and Ryan Howard had a walk-off RBI single in the ninth off closer Jenrry Mejia. The Mets' loss dropped them to 56-62, fourth in the National League East. On the injury front, it appears Daisuke Matsuzaka will need a couple more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.

I reported on August 7 that Matsuzaka, who was placed on the disabled list on July 26 with right elbow discomfort, could throw off the mound soon.

Adam Rubin, who covers the Mets for, tweeted the following update on Matsuzaka.
In 28 games this season, Matsuzaka is 3-3 with a 3.87 ERA. Matsuzaka's best season was in 2009 when he went 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA with the Red Sox.  The eight-year Major League veteran has pitched for the Red Sox and Mets and has a career record of 56-43 with a 4.46 ERA.
