Mets Injury Update: Daniel Murphy placed on DL

By on 8/28/2014 11:45:00 PM

The New York Mets to do not appear to be messing around this season. Daniel Murphy has been placed on the disabled list with a calf injury and in a shocking move they have brought up 20-year-old Dilson Herrera to take his place.
This season Murphy has been a shining star with the Mets. He not only has a .301 average, but he also leads the league with 159 hits. He has developed into one of the team's premier players.

But while the loss of Murphy will be big for the team, the glimpse Herrera will be well worth it for Mets fans.  Mike Vorkunov reports that the callup comes a year after he was first acquired in a trade with the Pirates for Marlon Byrd.

Although he is very young, currently ranks Herrera as the ninth best second base prospect in all of the minor leagues.  Through two levels of the minors this year, Herrera has a .319 batting average with 12 home runs and 23 steals.

Although they are buried in the cellar, getting a chance to see Herrera everyday will be well worth it for Mets fans as the season heads into the final month.
