By on 8/17/2014 01:30:00 PM

As reported earlier, Mets third baseman David Wright left Saturday night's game with a sore left shoulder. He is out of Sunday's lineup against the Chicago Cubs, and, according to Adam Rubin of, it's not clear he'll play in the finale on Monday afternoon. Eric Campbellwill start at third.

Wright, 31, said he's "pretty sore" because the ball hit him in the same spot where he received a cortisone shot in July. The seven-time All-Star is hitting .273/.331/.380 (OPS+ 104) on the season. He was out for seven games (June 27-July 5) with a bruised shoulder.

Now in his eleventh season, Wright is a career .299/.378/.496 hitter and regarded as the "Captain" of the Mets. He was their first round draft pick in 2001 and made his debut July 21, 2004 at age 21. In 2007 he signed a contract extention for fourteen years and $192 million that takes him through 2020.
