Mets Inury Update: Jenrry Mejia not available Saturday

By on 8/10/2014 06:30:00 AM

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday in 11 innings by the score of 2-1. The win improved the Mets to 56-61, fourth in the National League East. Dillon Gee allowed only three hits and a run in seven innings. The bullpen was without the services of Jenrry Mejia, but allowed only two hits in four innings of work.

Our own Darius Austin reported on Friday that Mejia has been battling tightness in his calf. He was not allowed to go back out for a second inning in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Washington Nationals because of the injury.  Mejia saved Friday night's game against the Phillies, although he allowed a run on two hits and did not look particularly sharp.

An update on Mejia, as reported by Marty Gitlin of, is that Mejia was unavailable on Saturday against the Phillies due to the calf tightness that has plagued him of late. Mejia has converted 17 of 19 save opportunities, although lately he's struggled some, allowing two hits in six of his last seven outings.

Mejia, in his fourth Major League season, is 5-4 with 17 saves and a 3.68 ERA. In 85 career games, including 18 starts, Mejia is 7-12 with a 3.87 ERA.
