Nationals Injury Update: Jayson Werth still out

By on 8/16/2014 10:45:00 PM

Another game in Washington and another day on the bench for Jayson Werth. For the seventh time in eight games, Werth's shoulder kept him out of the Nationals' lineup in their 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In his place Kevin Frandsen got the start in left field. He has been questionable all week, but Mark Zuckerman is reporting that they hope that he will be back in the lineup tomorrow.

For the past four years, the 35-year-old Werth has been a leader in the Nationals clubhouse. With the club holding a six game lead over the Atlanta Braves and missing Ryan Zimmerman, they need to get players like him back in the lineup to keep the pressure on.

This season in 112 games, Werth has batted .279 with 12 homers and a .800 OPS. The club has a huge hole in their lineup when Werth is not an option.
