Nationals Injury Update: Steven Souza placed on DL

By on 8/10/2014 04:15:00 PM

Washington Nationals have placed outfielder Steven Souza Jr, who injured his left shoulder in Friday night's game, on the 15-day DL and called up outfielder Michael A. Taylor, according to MASNSports.

Taylor, 23, started the season in Double-A Harrisburg and was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse at the beginning of August. He has hit ,315/.401/.547 combined, and was 4 for 13 (.385) with three doubles, a triple, four walks and two strikeouts in four games at the higher level. In their most recent rating, MLB ranked Taylor as the Nationals No. 3 prospect (No. 72 overall). His defense is probably major-league ready, while his bat needs refinement.

Taylor was originally drafted as a shortstop in 2009 (9th round). His first appearance will be his major debut. He is pre-arb and under team control through 2019.

Souza Jr was hitting .354/.435/.601 OPS 1.036 at Triple-A Syracuse before his promotion on August 5. He was also up briefly in April, and overall is 1 for 12. The 24-year-old was drafted by the Nationals in 2007 and made his debut April 13, 2014. He is pre-arb and under team control through 2019.
