Orioles Injury Update: Manny Machado will have surgery, out for season

UPDATE: According to Tim Brown of Yahoo, Machado will have surgery next week, and will miss the rest of the season. Brown also tweeted that small 'abnormalities' have been identified in both knees and will be fixed during the surgery.

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will not return next week, when he is eligible, according to ESPN. Machado sprained his right knee on August 11th vs New York. Manager Buck Showalter said there will be more updates in the next two days. Machado missed the first month of the season after having surgery on his left knee.

Before the injury, the 2013 Gold Glove award winner was hitting .278, with 12 home runs in 82 games. The Orioles, who have been using Chris Davis at third base, lead the American League East by nine games, and are 21 games over .500.
