Orioles Injury Update: Steve Pearce exits with abdominal strain

By on 8/30/2014 07:15:00 AM

The Baltimore Orioles won Friday's nights game handily, beating the Minnesota Twins 9-1, but they did not come out of the game without issues.  Steve Pearce exited the game early with an abdominal strain.
Injuries of this magnitude are one of the trickiest to diagnose.  Some players are able to quickly heal, while others battle pain for weeks.  The Orioles are hoping for a quick recovery.

Pearce is off to the best season of his career as he is seeing more consistent playing time that he ever has before. In 84 games, Pearce has a .290 batting average with a career high 16 home runs, 12 more that he has hit in any previous season.

Chris Davis shifted from third to first to take over for Pearce and Jimmy Paredes took over at third base.  With Manny Machado out for the season, losing Pearce for any time would greatly hurt thei Orioles' depth.  However, a seven game lead in the division may make resting Pearce a little easier than if they were in a tighter race.
