Packers Injury Update: Jordy Nelson returns to practice

By on 8/12/2014 05:34:00 PM

After missing the first preseason game and a few days of practice, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson was back on the practice field Tuesday, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. Nelson had recently been dealing with a minor hamstring injury.

While Nelson's injury was never truly a cause for concern, the Packers wanted to proceed on the side of caution with their wide receiver. And who can blame them? Nelson and the Packers agreed to a four-year, $39 million contract extension at the start of training camp a couple of weeks ago.

Nelson's return to the practice field is certainly good news for the Packers, but he was still limited during team drills. ESPN NFL Nation Packers reporter Rob Demovsky reports Nelson only took the first snaps of the last two team periods. The limited reps suggest the Packers are still proceeding cautiously with Nelson, meaning they could take their time deciding his status for Saturday afternoon's preseason matchup with the St. Louis Rams.

Even if he can play, holding Nelson out of Saturday's game would not be the worst idea. Nelson will still have plenty of time during practice and the third preseason game to get back on the same page with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And your own team is always more sensitive to an injury than an opposing team.
