Padres Injury Update: Everth Cabrera to DL again

By on 8/13/2014 06:00:00 AM

The San Diego Padres entered Tuesday night's game against the Colorado Rockies with a record of 55-62, fourth in the National League West. The Padres have struggled offensively, ranked 30th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Injuries have also been a problem, as eight players are currently on the disabled list. One of them is shortstop Everth Cabrera, who is back on the DL with a hamstring injury.

I reported on Tuesday that Cabrera, who was placed on the disabled list at the beginning of July with a left hamstring strain, had been activated. But it appeared he re-aggravated the hamstring and was scratched from the lineup on Monday.

An update on Cabrera, as reported by Aaron Gleeman of, is that Cabrera is now back on the disabled list with the hamstring injury which has plagued him for over month. He returned from a previous stint on the disabled list with the same issue and played 10 games.

Alexi Amarista has been filling in for Cabrera of late and will most likely get the majority of playing time at shortstop until Cabrera returns. Amarista, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .230 with three home runs and 20 RBI.
Cabrera is batting .232 with three home runs, 20 RBI and 18 stolen bases this season. He's a career .248 hitter with 12 home runs, 128 RBI and 136 stolen bases, in 482 games over six seasons.
