Padres Injury Update: Everth Cabrera to start jogging Monday

By on 8/22/2014 09:45:00 AM

The San Diego Padres enter a weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels with a record of 59-67, third in the National League West. The Padres have struggled offensively, ranking 30th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Injuries have also hampered the team, who have eight players currently on the disabled list. One player who has been improving is shortstop Everth Cabrera, who will start jogging on Monday.

I reported on August 13 that Cabrera,  who was placed on the disabled list at the beginning of July with a left hamstring strain, aggravated the injury during the game on August 11, and returned to the disabled list.

Dennis Lin, who covers the Padres for, tweeted the following update on Cabrera.
Alexi Amarista has been filling in for Cabrera of late and will continue to get the majority of playing time at shortstop until Cabrera returns. Amarista, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .232 with three home runs and 23 RBI.
Cabrera is batting .232 with three home runs, 20 RBI and 18 stolen bases this season. He's a career .248 hitter with 12 home runs, 128 RBI and 136 stolen bases, in 482 games over six seasons.
