The San Diego Padres fell to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday by the score of 7-6. The loss dropped the Padres to 58-65, third in the National League West. At seven games out of a wild card spot, the Padres need to make a run soon to get back into the wild card race. The bad news is they'll be without Yonder Alonso, who is out for the season. In a minor injury note, Joaquin Benoit missed Sunday's game, but is expected to be ready for Tuesday's game.

Our own Nathaniel Reeves reported on August 14 that Alonso on the 15-day disabled list with an undisclosed injury to his right forearm and wrist.

Jeff Sanders, who covers the Padres for U-T San Diego, tweeted the following on Alonso's status.
