Panthers Injury Update: Cam Newton injures back

By on 8/23/2014 12:14:00 PM

The Carolina Panthers have played quarterback Cam Newton in last two of the three preseason games they have had this year. Newton's ankle seems to be fine after undergoing off season ankle surgery. But during the last game against the New England Patriots Newton took a shot in the back midway through the first quarter and sat out a play, according to Gregg Rosenthal of Around the League.

Rosenthal said Newton had x-rays during the second half of the game on his back and they came back negative. Newton does have a contusion in the middle of his back.

Newton has not been himself even if he is moving well, Coach Ron Rivera said Newton will play next week so the offense can work on their timing, as reported by Rosenthal.

Their still might be a little hesitation in Newton's step concerning the ankle and as the season progresses hopefully his confidence builds because when Newton is playing well he is sure fun to watch.

In Newton's two preseason appearances he has 12 completions in 21 chances for 153 yards. Newton has only rushed three times for 12 yards. Newton has also been sacked five times.
