Cam Newton, quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, was injured Friday Night vs. the New England Patriots. He suffered a fractured rib on a play where he slid and Jamie Collins, Patriots linebacker, jumped on top of him. After the play Newton went back to the huddle, and then he took a knee. The injury sustained led to him coming out of the game.
According to the Panthers twitter account, it appears that Newton will be okay for week one, even after sustaining a fractured rib. Coach Ron Rivera said that he won't play in the team's last preseason game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, but that comes to no surprise.
Most of the starting quarterbacks that have their jobs set in stone won't be participating in the final preseason game, or their amount of playing time will be very short.
Cam Newton is obviously a large part of the Panthers offense, so it instrumental that he is healthy and ready to go for game one. The injury is a slight concern though, because now teams will target his rib area to see just how healthy he is. For Panthers fans: You can take a deep sigh of relief, for now, but come week one, I know you'll be holding your breath every time Newton gets hit.
