Patriots Injury Update: Rob Gronkowski held out as precaution

By on 8/05/2014 07:30:00 PM

As the New England Patriots prepare for their first preseason game against Washington on Thursday, one offensive threat has been noticeably held out of joint practices. Rob Gronkowski, recovering from last season's knee injury, has not been participating in full team activities.

Not only is Gronkowski not participating in team workouts, he's not even with the team. Albert Breer of reported via Twitter the team decided not to bring Gronkowski to Richmond, Virginia to practice with Washington.

It is important to note there have been no reports of a setback in Gronk's recovery. The decision likely arises from Gronk telling WEEI in Boston he would not change his playing style despite a recent rash of injuries.

“Nah, I ain’t changing that one bit,” Gronkowski said. “I’m going to go full speed when I’m out there and I’m going to keep smashing and dashing in everything I do. Maybe if it’s not necessary one single bit I’ll go down [to the ground]. But if I can make some plays and make some extra yards and get in the end zone, I’m definitely going to go full speed and do everything I can.”

New England and Washington open their respective pre-seasons Thursday night at 7:30 PM EST.
