By on 8/16/2014 12:30:00 PM

The Philadelphia Phillies came from 3-1 behind in the eighth inning to defeat the San Fancisco Giants on Friday by the score of 5-3, in 10 innings. Marlon Byrd and Cody Asche homered for the Phillies, who improved to 54-68 on the season. It's been a struggle for the Phillies, who are 23rd in team ERA and 22nd in runs scored. On the injury front, outfielder John Mayberry Jr. is slowly getting better from a wrist injury, although there is no timetable for his return.

As reported by Todd Zolecki of, Mayberry has been on the disabled list since July 21 with inflammation in his left wrist. Although he is getting closer to rejoining the Phillies, manager Ryne Sandberg indicated that Mayberry is being slowed up following workouts.
"Kind of a holding pattern. It's a tolerance thing. But at some point he'll get two or three or four games [in the Minor Leagues] whenever he feels like he gets to that point."
The Phillies outfield of Grady Sizemore, Ben Revere and Marlon Byrd have played well of late. Along with Domonic Brown and Darin Ruf, the Phillies have good depth at the moment and are in no rush to get Mayberry back before he's ready.

Mayberry is batting just .213 with six home runs and 30 RBI this season. In parts of six Major League seasons, all with the Phillies, Mayberry has 52 home runs and 169 RBI in 500 games.
