Pirates Injury Update: Andrew McCutchen activated

After being sidelined since August 5 with a fractured rib and cartilage injury in his left side, the Pirates announced that Andrew McCutchen has been activated and is the lineup tonight for Pittsburgh.

This is welcome news for the Pirates as they have lost five straight games and are now 2 games out of a wild card spot behind the Giants and Braves. They are 6 games out of first place in the National League Central.

This season, McCutchen has a slash of .311/.411/.536 with 17 home runs, 67 RBI, 85 strikeouts, 68 walks, and a .947 OPS in 109 games. He has  17 stolen bases and a 5.0 WAR. He is having a similar year to 2013 when he won the NL MVP award.

In 2013, McCutchen had a line of .317/.404/.508 with 21 home runs, 84 RBI, 78 walks, 101 strikeouts, 27 stolen bases, and a .912 OPS in 157 games. He had a 8.2 WAR.

The Pirates face the Braves in game two of the series as Aaron Harang (9-7, 3.51 ERA) and Francisco Liriano (3-9, 3.78 ERA) face off in a fight for the second wild card spot.
