Pirates Injury Update: Andrew McCutchen back in lineup

By on 8/28/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday by the score of 3-1. The win improved the Pirates to 69-64, third in the National League West. Ike Davis went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run for the Pirates. Andrew McCutchen was back in the lineup and also went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on August 26 that McCutchen was removed from Tuesday's 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth inning due to left rib discomfort.  He was replaced by Starling Marte in center with Jose Tabata coming in to play right field.  But McCutchen felt well enough to be back in the lineup on Wednesday.

Travis Sawchik, who covers the Pirates for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, tweeted the following, confirming McCutchen's return to the lineup.
McCutchen, in his sixth Major League season, is batting .307 with 20 home runs and 71 RBI this season. The All-Star center fielder has had four consecutive 20-plus home run seasons and is a career .297 hitter with 123 home runs, 449 RBI and 142 stolen bases.
