Pirates Injury Update: Clint Barmes activated

The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped to 67-64 on the season following a 3-2 loss ot the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. The loss puts the Pirates five and a half games out in the Central Division with 31 games to play. On the injury front, veteran shortstop Clint Barmes was activated from the disabled list after missing nearly two months with a groin injury.

Our own Darius Austin reported on August 21 that Barmes hit a home run for the Indianapolis Indians in his second game with the team.  He played on Monday, August 18 and went 0-for-3 and played the entire game at shortstop on Wednesday.

Barmes, in his 12th Major League season, last played on June 29 against the New York Mets. In 42 games this season, Barmes is batting .239 with four RBI.  The veteran shortstop has played for the Rockies, Astros and Pirates and is a career .246 hitter with 86 home runs and 396 RBI.
