Pirates Injury Update: Gerrit Cole activated

By on 8/20/2014 04:00:00 PM

The Pirates were able to add 23 year old Gerrit Cole back into their rotation today, activating the right handed pitcher from the DL. Cole last pitched on the fourth of July against the Phillies, recording the win with five innings of one hit ball.

Cole, who owns a 7-4 record on the year with a 3.78 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP, will take the mound tonight against the Braves in Pittsburgh for the series finale.

Cole can be a big boost to the Pirates' pitching staff, as they try to make the playoffs for a second straight year. Right now, the Bucs are seven games behind the Brewers in the NL Central standings, and two games out of the second wild card spot. The Pirates need everybody to contribute, as their best player, and reigning NL MVP, Andrew McCutchen is on the DL.
