By on 8/07/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday by the score of 7-3. The win improved the Pirates to 60-53 on the season, third in the National League Central. Josh Harrison lead the Pirates offensive attack with three hits in four at bats. The Pirates were without second baseman Neil Walker, who was out with back tightness. Michael Martinez started in Walker's place and went 0-for-4.

Our own Darius Austin reported on August 4 that Walker's back tightened before Saturday's game and the team didn't want to take any chances on Sunday. The Pirates had an off day on Monday and the team was waiting to see if Walker could play on Tuesday.

As reported by Stephen Pianovich of, Walker was pulled from Tuesday's game after seven innings and was out of the lineup on Wednesday due to recurring tightness in his back. Manager Clint Hurdle wanted to give Walker a full day of treatment and did not take batting practice on Wednesday.

Walker, in his sixth Major League season, is batting .278 with 16 home runs and 50 RBI this season. He's a career .274 hitter with 70 home runs and 321 RBI.
