Pirates Injury Update: Travis Snider exits with hamstring discomfort

By on 8/28/2014 05:00:00 AM

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Travis Snider left Wednesday's win early after running out a bunt single, reports Stephen Pianovich of The team later confirmed that Snider had departed with left hamstring discomfort and would be evaluated further on Thursday:
Pianovich writes that Snider initially stayed in the game following the single but was replaced two batters later by Jose Tabata, who also played right field in Snider's stead for the rest of the game. The Pirates have an off-day Thursday so they will have time to determine whether they need any additional roster help to cover for Snider.

Pittsburgh's bid to make the playoffs is not being helped by injuries, with Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez both leaving Tuesday's game early, although McCutchen played Wednesday. Rookie Gregory was recently sent down after struggling at the plate but the Pirates could bring him back if Snider went on the disabled list. Josh Harrison could be another option in the outfield, having played more than 20 games in both left and right field this year, but the team is reluctant to have Alvarez play any more third base because of his poor defense.
