Raiders Injury Update:Oakland waiting on Matt Schaub's elbow to make QB decision

By on 8/31/2014 08:21:00 AM

It appears a decision on Oakland Raiders quarterback situation won't happen until Monday. Jerry McDonald of the San Jose Mercury News reports Raiders coach Dennis Allen is waiting to talk to Matt Schaub about his sore elbow before deciding. Monday the team will reconvene and begin preparations for the regular season opener, on the road, against the New York Jets.

On top of the elbow trouble, Schaub was dismissed from practice Friday to handle a personal matter. "Matt's got a personal issue that he's been excused for and so I haven't had an opportunity to see him and I'm not sure exactly when that will be,'' Allen said.

While Schaub deals with his issues, rookie second-round pick Derek Carr is taking advantage of the opportunity. He led the Raiders to four touchdowns in four possessions in their final preseason game Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks. Carr completed 11 of 13 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

When asked about the performance, Allen said, "There's a lot of things that factor into the decision-making process. But I will say I was very pleased with what I saw out of Derek Carr last (Thursday) night.''

Schaub did perform footwork drills before the game. He also threw on the side during the game, but has not practiced fully for more than a week.
