Rangers Injury Update: Shin-Soo Choo to have season-ending surgery

By on 8/26/2014 06:00:00 AM

It appears that Shin-Soo Choo's injury plagued 2014 plagued season is officially over.  Jeff Wilson has reported that Choo has a bone spur in his elbow and is finished for the 2014 campaign.
As earlier reported on Rotowire reports, Choo has played through pain through most of the season, which has contributed to the leadoff man's down numbers. The ankle injury he sustained early in the year has dogged him all season and, combined with this bone spur, has not helped him to produce the way the Rangers were hoping.

Just as the season went south in Texas, Choo's numbers were not reflective of recent years.  After batting .284 with a .423 OBP last season with the Reds, Choo came to Texas with expectations of remaining one of the games top leadoff hitters, but he has not been close.  This season, Choo has just a .242 batting average and has not been the on-base machine that he once was.

In his place, outfielder Michael Choice has been called up. While the 24 year-old has eight home runs this year he has struggled to get going consistently against major league pitching.  With the Rangers out of the race, he should have plenty of opportunities to prove himself the rest of the way.
