Rangers Injury Update: Yu Darvish unlikely to pitch again this season

By on 8/25/2014 05:45:00 PM

In a radio interview with KRLD-FM/105.3, a Texas radio station, Rangers GM Jon Daniels addressed questions on the Rangers Ace Yu Darvish, reports Evan Grant. Daniels said that the club will be "extremely cautious" about letting Darvish take the mound again this year.
By the calendar and how close to the end of the season we are, I don’t know that it will allow him to pitch again. I think it’s critical going into next year for us to put all these injury issues and concerns behind us as we possibly can. It doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense to me to take a risk when the MRI clearly shows there is something going on in there.
The Rangers have been bit by the injury bug this year, as they have 13 players on the DL, including Prince Fielder and Jurickson Profar. Darvish was placed on the 15 day DL with Elbow inflammation on August 13th.

If Darvish doesn't pitch again this season, he will finish with a 10-7 record, with a 3.06 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and 2 complete games. The Rangers are 50-79 entering action Monday, which is the worst record in baseball. It would be smart to shut down Yu Darvish to make sure he is 100% for next season, where they hope to compete for a playoff spot again.
