Rays Injury Update: David DeJesus, Wil Myers

By on 8/18/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Tampa Bay Rays lost to the New York Yankees on Sunday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Rays to 61-63, fourth in the American League East. With 38 games in the season, there is little time to get back in the race. The eventual return of David DeJesus and Wil Myers could provide the offensive spark the Rays need. Myers is improving in his rehab, while DeJesus took a minor step backwards

As reported by Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times, Myers went 1-for-4 for Triple-A Durham last night as the designated hitter. Manager Joe Maddon said that Myers continues to improve and it's possible he could return for the Tigers series or the upcoming road trip to Toronto.

Myers, in his second Major League season, is batting .227 with five home runs and 25 RBI. He's a career .268 hitter with 18 home runs and 68 RBI.

As for DeJesus, his had was sore yesterday and playing his first rehab game as DH for the Gulf Coast League Rays. DeJesus will take an extra day off and hit Tuesday before continuing his rehab assignment on Wednesday.

DeJesus, in his 12th Major League season, is batting .269 with five home runs and 17 RBI. He's a career .278 hitter with 93 home runs and 541 RBI.
