Rays Injury Update: Kevin Kiermaier exits with back tightness

By on 8/12/2014 06:45:00 AM

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier was removed from Monday night's win over the Texas Rangers with back tightness. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported the news, suggesting that the move was largely precautionary:

Kiermaier was replaced by Brandon Guyer in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Guyer playing left and Ben Zobrist moving over for Kiermaier in right. Topkin later tweeted that Kiermaier had been reluctant to leave the game when manager Joe Maddon decided to take him out, and he is expected to play on Tuesday.

The rookie has impressed since being called up, hitting .282/.333/.502 with nine home runs and ten doubles in 68 games. He has made the vast majority of the starts in right field following the injury to Wil Myers, but with Myers on his way back, it's not clear how the playing time in the Tampa Bay outfield will be distributed.
