Red Sox Injury Update: Allen Craig out with ankle problem

By on 8/03/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees on Saturday by the score of 6-4. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 49-61, last place in the American League East. At 25th in the Major Leagues in runs scored and 21 in ERA, the defending World Series champions have had very little go their way this season. Injuries have played a factor in their dismal season and now Allen Craig is out with an ankle problem.

Scott Lauber, who covers the Red Sox for the Boston Herald, tweeted the following update on Craig.
Craig is listed second on the depth chart at first base behind Mike Napoli and second at designated hitter behind David Ortiz. The Red Sox have depth, so there is no need to rush Craig back should there be any setbacks in his recovery.

Craig, in his fifth Major League season, is 1-for-4 with a double in his only game with the Red Sox. He was batting .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBI with the Cardinals this season.  In 470 career games, Craig has a batting average of .291 with 57 home runs and 291 RBI.
