Red Sox Injury Update: Allen Craig starts rehab at Pawtucket

By on 8/19/2014 10:15:00 AM

The Boston Red Sox fell to the Los Angeles Angels last night by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 56-68, last in the American League East. It's been a miserable season for the defending World Series Champions, who fell to 15 1/2 games back in the division. On the injury front, Allen Craig, who has been out with a sprained foot, began a rehab assignment last night at Pawtucket.

Our own Pete Schwichtenberg reported on August 18 that Craig, who has been on the disabled list since August 2 with a sprained foot, was set to begin a rehab assignment in Pawtucket last night.

An update on Craig, as reported at the official website of the Pawtucket Red Sox, is that he played in his first game of a rehab assignment as the designated hitter for Pawtucket. He went 0-for-2 with a walk in Pawtucket's 2-0 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

Craig, in his fifth Major League season, is 1-for-4 with a double in his only game with the Red Sox. He was batting .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBI with the Cardinals this season.  In 470 career games, Craig has a batting average of .291 with 57 home runs and 291 RBI.
