Red Sox Injury Update: Allen Craig activated

By on 8/21/2014 07:00:00 PM

After winning the World Series a season ago, the Boston Red Sox have stumbled to 56-70, last in the American League East. One bright sport this season has been the play of 38-year old designated hitter David Ortiz, who hit his 30th home run of the season yesterday. It's the ninth time in his career to hit the 30-home run mark in a season. In other news, the Red Sox have activated Allen Craig, who has missed most of the month with a sprained foot.

I reported on August 19 that Craig,  who has been out with a sprained foot since August 2, played in his first game of a rehab assignment as the designated hitter for Pawtucket. He went 0-for-2 with a walk.

Alex Speier, who covers the Red Sox for, confirmed Craig's activation with this tweet.
Craig went 1-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk in two rehab games at Pawtucket.

Craig, in his fifth Major League season, is 1-for-4 with a double in his only game with the Red Sox. He was batting .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBI with the Cardinals this season.  In 470 career games, Craig has a batting average of .291 with 57 home runs and 291 RBI.
