As Dustin Pedroia missed Sunday's game with flu-like symptoms, the Boston Red Sox got positive news on two of their other injured players.
Peter Craig of the Boston Globe is reporting that Allen Craig, who upon joining the Red Sox went on the DL with a foot sprain, is set to start his rehab in Pawtucket on Monday. Catcher David Ross, who went on the disabled list the following day will be skipping a rehab trip and is expected to be back with the big club on Monday or Tuesday.
Although the season is lost, Craig will give the organization a look into the future over the final weeks of the season. After batting .315 last season with the Cardinals and being a machine with runners in scoring position, Craig has struggled to duplicate his numbers this year. Through his first 98 games, he is batting just .237 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs. His finish is important as he looks to be a big part of the team's future.
The future of David Ross is not so certain. He is not only in the final year of his contract but he has struggled to stay on the field during his Red Sox career. Over the past two seasons, he has only been able to play in 76 games. He is currently batting just .192 through 40 games this season.
