Red Sox Injury Update: Ryan Lavarnway resumes rehab

By on 8/09/2014 08:00:00 AM

Red Sox catcher-turned-first baseman Ryan Lavarnway went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, as he rehabs from right hand (hamate) surgery performed on June 3. Lavarnway missed three games with a sore left hand, according to Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects.com.

Lavarnway, 26, hit .299/.329/.429 in 25 games (82 PAs) last season. With plenty of catching talent in the Red Sox system, Lavarnway was transitioning to first base, reports Jen McCaffrey of masslive.com. Lavarnway was drafted by the Red Sox in 2008 (6th round) and made his debut August 18, 2011. He is pre-arb and under team control through 2018.
