UPDATE 17:00 ET: WEEI's Alex Speier reports that Cespedes sustained the injury during his third at-bat. Manager John Farrell said he got jammed during the at-bat and was still feeling soreness later on, so the team took him out as a precautionary measure.

Recently-acquired Boston Red Sox outfielder Yoenis Cespedes came out of Wednesday afternoon's win early, according to Ian Browne of The reason cited for the Cuban's exit was a contusion to his right hand, but the cause of the injury was unknown.

Browne reports that Cespedes came out in the seventh, with Will Middlebrooks replacing him as a pinch-hitter before staying in the game at third base, with Kelly Johnson moving to left field. Cespedes was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI before leaving the game.

Boston will hope that the injury does not keep the outfielder out for long. Cespedes had started to fuel the Red Sox offense of late, hitting home runs in each of his previous two games to help the team to wins over the Angels and Cincinnati.
