Reds Injury Update: Homer Bailey dealing with a sore elbow

By on 8/12/2014 06:00:00 PM

The rough season for Homer Bailey continues as NBCs Sports, Aaron Gleeman, is reporting that he will skip his scheduled start on Wednesday.  While they are downplaying the significance of the injury, the news is alarming for Cincinnati Reds fans who have seen their stars on the disabled list all season.
Mike Leake will start in his place on Wednesday as Bailey's start has been pushed back to Saturday.

After signing a massive contract extension this winter, things have not gone as planned for Bailey.  He has not only battled injuries, but he struggled early on as he saw his ERA grow over five at the start of June.  His recent successes, that have included six quality starts in his last seven outings have helped him to get the ERA back to a respectable 3.71.

In the heart of a pennant race, the Reds have already lost Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips until at least September.  If they are going to stay in the race they simply cannot afford to lose another star.
