Reds Injury Update: Homer Bailey to DL

By on 8/15/2014 11:15:00 AM

The Cincinnati Reds, who are now below .500 and in danger of falling out of both the NL Central and Wild Card races, took another injury hit: right-handed starter Homer Bailey is headed to the DL after an MRI revealed a flexor mass strain in his elbow, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.

Bailey was scheduled to start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies. The team has not yet announced who will start that game, nor a corresponding roster move. Bailey, 28, is 9-5 with a 3.71 ERA (ERA+ 98) in 23 starts.

The Reds first-round draft pick in 2004, Bailey made his debut June 8, 2007 at age 21 and has two no-hitters to his name (9/28/2012 and 7/2/2013). Over his career (eight seasons, all with the Reds) he is 58-50 and has a 4.17 ERA. In February 2014, the Reds signed him to a six year, $105 milllion contract that takes him though 2019 (2020 mutual option).
