Reds Injury Update: Joey Votto still feels significant discomfort

By on 8/29/2014 08:00:00 PM

The Reds are 65-69 and are 8.5 games behind the first place Brewers in the NL Central. Their best player, Joey Votto has been dealing with injuries for most of the season, as he's only played in 62 games this season. After being cleared to resume baseball activities earlier in the week, Votto is apparently still feeling discomfort in his quad, writes Mike Axisa.

Here is what Reds manager, Bryan Price, had to say on Votto
He took a few ground balls (Wednesday). It wasn't as good a result as we had hoped. There was still some fairly significant discomfort when he got lateral side-to-side so we had back off with that and stay with some strengthening and whatever the physical therapy protocols are. We hope when we get back there are some marked improvement. He took some light swings yesterday and he'll be able to gradually increase baseball workload based on how he feels.
With 26 games left to go in their season, the Reds have a 1.2% of making the playoffs, so maybe its time for the Reds to shut Votto down for the year, and hope for him to be healthy next year.

Joey Votto is hitting .255/.390/.409 on the year with 6 HRs and 23 RBIs. Even if the 2010 NL MVP were to return this season, would it be enough to push the Reds into the playoffs?
