Reds Injury Update: Todd Frazier sits with back soreness

By on 8/16/2014 11:15:00 AM

Todd Frazier was forced to sit out the Cincinnati Reds' win on Friday night with back soreness, according to Mark Sheldon of Frazier told Sheldon that he tweaked his back the night before when swinging at a changeup during his second at-bat and was in pain for the rest of the game, especially when running:

"I was never the same since that at-bat. Running was probably the biggest problem. I could swing but if I had to leg one out, there was no way. Jogging really hurt. That's why I wasn't really running to first, because I couldn't."
Sheldon writes that the third baseman has been receiving treatment but felt worse on Friday than he did Thursday. Frazier hopes to play Saturday but did not sound particularly confident of that.

Frazier has also been playing a lot of first base with Joey Votto sidelined, so the Reds had to use Jack Hannahan at first on Friday, with Ramon Santiago at third and Kris Negron at second. Brandon Phillips is starting a rehab assignment on Friday and the depleted Reds infield could really use a boost from his return as they continue to scramble to cover for injuries.
